Cara earned her post-professional Doctorate in occupational therapy in 2019 at Rocky Mountain University and a master's degree in OT from Duquesne University in 1997. She earned her certification as an Autism Specialist in 2021 from the International Board of Credentialing. She is a former lead of the Clinical Applications in Pediatrics Courses for MOT and OTD students at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences and currently serves as an advisor for student capstone projects at Texas Woman's University and University of Florida. Cara is known as The Pocket Occupational Therapist. Her website contains products designed to support the busy occupational therapist, is AOTA-approved for delivering PDUs, and helps caregivers learn advocacy and using strengths-based approaches for their children.
Cara is a mother to her own two adult autistic sons. Not only does she understand occupational therapy, but she is able to appreciate the unique perspective of the caregiver. She has published six books for caregivers and therapists and has written chapters in multiple others. Cara's newest book, about executive function using the Train Model will be released in fall 2023. As the owner of the largest pediatric occupational therapy group on Facebook, she encourages OTPs to connect, learn, and share with over 49,500 members across the globe.
